Crossing Boundaries

Here is a picture on the cruise ship of Hughston playing Ping-Pong and getting beat by an 80 year old Korean woman named Shun. Shun and the rest of her family that was on the ship fell in love with Hughston. We called them his “other family”. We rarely saw Hughston while at sea. One of the greatest things about him is how easily he makes friends. It stills amazes me how an American, 14 year old, tall, skinny, blonde hair, blue eyed, white boy can make friends with a short, dark hair, dark eyed, 80 year old, Korean women that can't speak English. If Hughston and Shun can cross generational, ethnic, and language barriers to make friends, then surely we can communicate the gospel and the love of Jesus to our neighbors.

Back From Vacation

To The Church at Bradford Road family I would like to say thank you for allowing my family and me to be off a couple of weeks from church. Darcy and I understand that it is a privilege and not a right for us to be gone for so long. Part of our trip was to celebrate the high school graduation of our son, Hunter, and our nephew, Corey or Corey Oreo as Darcy calls him.

Here is a short synopsis of our trip. My family flew to Anchorage, Alaska along with Darcy's brother Justin, his wife Jinnene, and their two children Corey and Kelsey. The next day we boarded the Coral Princess cruise ship in a small community just about an hour away in the small town of Whittier. While on the cruise ship we went to College Fjord, Glacier Bay National Park, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and Vancouver, British Columbia. I will be telling you more about Alaska in this blog in the coming days. It is an amazing place to say the least.

After leaving the ship we rented a van and all eight of us began our road trip. After catching a few sights in Vancouver and Seattle we went over to the coast through the state of Oregon. After entering California we went to the Redwood National forest (WOW!) and then to HWY 1 on the coast of California (AMAZING) to San Francisco. Then it was off through the Napa Valley and to Fresno where I performed a wedding ceremony for my nephew Trey and his new wife, Katie. We left there and went back to San Francisco and flew home. It was a long but a very memorable trip.

Here is a picture of a church that we visited while in Juneau, Alaska, Chapel By The Lake (chapelbythelake.com). The most amazing thing to me about this place was the story that they told us about a former pastor that had just celebrated his 100th birthday and is still preaching. He owned a boat and used it to go to remote places around Alaska to preach in those communities. He has an incredible ministry and it is still going strong. Come back and check out my blog. I will be sharing more stories from our vacation just like these.   /files/Kristie/blog pics/100_0186.jpg

A Proud Father

God the Father said about His Son in Matthew 3:17, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased". Jesus paid the ultimate price for mankind. The Father didn’t take his child for granted and just assume that He understood His feelings. He affirmed Him publicly and privately. This is certainly a great lesson for us as parents.

I love my boys very much and I am very proud of them. Here are a couple of pictures of my boys getting honored.

Hughston played in the St. Clair County honor band and was one of only two students with a solo. Can you see him in the picture standing and being recognized? Hughston is a great student and he is very talented. I am certainly proud of him. Hughston is one funny dude and he keeps our family in stitches.

Hunter received an academic scholarship from St. Clair county and Veolia Waste Systems. Here he is receiving his scholarship from Commissioner Stan Bateman and a Veolia representative. Hunter is a great young man and has done very well in high school. My heart is sad that he is about to graduate.  He has great character, intelligence and love for the Lord. I’m sure that he will do well.

These are my sons, whom I love: with them I am well pleased!

Gone Fishin'

This is a picture of my brother-in-law Justin and me. We had just caught probably 80 to 100 pounds of fish and carried them off of the jetties at St. Andrews in Panama City Beach. The fish are in the yellow bag, look close. It was an awesome day!! We had a blast catching those fish. We caught twenty-four Sheephead and one 28 inch Redfish that day.

It was an incredible time, but not nearly as incredible as being a fisher of men. Pray that we have a great catch this Easter weekend. Stay tuned, there are more pictures and thoughts to come.

My First Post

It has been awhile since I’ve been this excited and optimistic about reaching our community for Christ. What could be more exciting than connecting people that are far from God to Christ? This is what the church has been called to do.

Baptizing Edward Sunday was really awesome. Jeff Steele will be baptized this Sunday. How incredible is that? Adult mature men surrender their life to the Lordship of Christ, it doesn’t get any better.

New Creation is a really upbeat series that epitomizes the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray with me that the next two Sundays in this series really impacts our church and people that are far from God. Especially pray for Easter, I’m a little nervous about three services. We are out on a limb. The only place that a tree bears fruit is out on a limb. I love you guys!! Rodney

Stay tuned... there's more to come.
